In the early days of Alosta, a rock and brush covered area at the foot of the San Gabriel mountains now part of Glendora, water was a problem. One of the original pioneers, John Bender, helped clear the land of boulders and cactus by hand to help bring in water from mountain tunnels. Currently, bamboo marks the growth of the water line.
