Description
Scope/Content: Diary of George Fujimoto, Jr., a young Japanese American man from Riverside, California. Entries begin on page 39 and cover Fujimoto's United States military training and service during World War II. Entries from January 1 to August 20 cover Fujimoto's Japanese language study at the Military Intelligence Service Language School at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Fujimoto was deployed in late August, and entries from August to November record travel by train and ship to Japan by way of Camp Anza, San Pedro, the Marshall Islands and the Philippines. Fujimoto arrived in Yokohama on November 15. Entries from November to January 1946 record the beginning of his US Army service in occupied Japan, including time in Tokyo, Yokohama, and Aomori.
