Title supplied by cataloger. In the New Testament, the author of the Gospel of Luke records that Saint Matthias was the Apostle chosen by the remaining eleven apostles to replace Judas Iscariot following Judas' betrayal of Jesus and his suicide. It is believed that St. Matthias was born in the 1st century AD in Judea (modern-day Israel) and died circa 80 AD in Jerusalem or in Colchis (modern-day Georgia). It is also believed that Matthias was one of the seventy disciples of Jesus, and had been with Him from His baptism by John to the Ascension. All further information concerning the life and death of Saint Matthias is vague and contradictory. This marquee for St. Matthias Catholic Church is nestled behind a small flowering bush on the front left side of the church, of which only a small portion is visible. The marquee reads: "St. Matthias Catholic Church - Iglesia Catolica de San Matias", and gives the office address as 7215 Mission Place, listing of the office hours below. The address for the church itself is 3095 E. Florence Avenue in the city of Huntington Park. St. Matthias Catholic Church also has an adjacent school, which caters to grades pre-Kinder through 8th grade. Photograph dated: June 2005.
