Description
Photograph of a birdseye view of Los Angeles, looking north-east from the Crocker Mansion on Third Street and Olive Avenue, ca.1890. The brick foundation, porch and balcony of the Crocker Mansion are partially visible on the crest of a hill to the left, with a view of the city extending below. The photograph appears to be taken to the south of the house, angled to the northeast to include the south face. What appears to be the brick side of the Millar Block (later, the Roanoke Building) on Broadway, just north of Second Street. Across Broadway, to the east, the spire of the First Presbyterian Church, on the south-east corner of Broadway and Second Street can be seen. Just above the rightmost portion of the Crocker balcony, the Phillips Block (a one-time home of Hamburger's Store) is visible. At the far right, the First Methodist Episcopal Church can be seen located on Broadway between Third and Forth Streets.
Originally, the image was captioned as "Birdseye view of Los Angeles, looking east from the Crocker Mansion on Third Street and Grand Avenue, ca.1890". Also, see CHS-399.
