Background Detail represents the four regimes in the county: Indian, Spanish, Mexican, and the United States. The photo is from a book by Billy Emery titled: Candidly! This is Salinas. These photos were taken for the Salinas Public Library. Billy Emery was a photographer with a studio in Salinas. Later he was a counselor with the Department of Corrections Soledad Training Facility. Title page to Emery's Candidly! This Is Salinas, a spiral bound book with a red cover.
