Description
Helen was the daughter of Fred Thompson, who was one of six children of James Sexton Thompson and Josephine Maroney Thompson. Helen's family built their home, Treehaven, in 1891 and have been associated with Mill Valley ever since. Recounts the history of the Thompson Family, including her famous aunt and author of 60 novels, Kathleen Thompson Norris. Helen also recalls: her summers at “La Estancia,” the Norris estate in Saratoga; her Aunt Theresa Thompson Benet, wife of William Rose Benet; and her warm Irish family. From 1974 to 1984, Carla Ehat, with partner Anne Kent, and later Genevieve Martinelli, interviewed a broad spectrum of Marin County's long-time residents, from ranchers to politicians, including descendants of early pioneer families. This program was co-sponsored by the Marin County Free Library and the Moya Library in Ross. The resulting archive, consisting of nearly 300 recordings and their corresponding transcriptions, are housed in the Anne T. Kent California Room at the Civic Center branch of the Marin County Free Library.
