Description
Norman Mineta, member of Congress, shakes Wiggsy Sivertsen's hand at the BAYMEC dinner, his first sign of public support for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.
Wiggsy Sivertsen co-founded GALA, the Gay and Lesbian/Bisexual Student Alliance at SJSU, and helped organize the first indoor Gay Pride Day Celebration at SJSU in 1975. The Bay Area Municipal Elections Committee (BAYMEC) is a non-partisan, political action committee serving the civil rights concerns of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals in the central coast counties of San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Monterey since 1984. BAYMEC was co-founded by Wiggsy Sivertsen and Ken Yeager. Written on verso: "1987 Norman Mineta, former member of Congress, shakes Wiggsy Sivertsen's hand at the BAYMEC dinner, his first sign of public support for the GLBT Community."
