Photograph caption dated April 10, 1984 reads, "Best Actor Robert Duvall got his first Oscar for his protrayal [sic] of a down-and-out country singer in 'Tender Mercies.' The veteran actor said he hadn't worked as hard on some of the other roles for which he has been nominated." The 56th Academy Awards were held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on April 9, 1984.
