Description
Caption: At Santa Anita Racetrack, Seabiscuit was forced into retirement when, in losing to Today, shown in this photo, he suffered a torn suspensory ligament in his right front leg. Owner C. S. Howard and trainer Tom Smith have carefully nursed him back to form, however, and they hope the leg can withstand another campaign for the "Hundred Grander." Later, Today, shown here beating Seabiscuit, was himself the victim of a freak accident when he broke his neck in a bad fall at Midwick Country Club. He reared in fright while being walked, stumbled and fell and suffered an internal hemorrhage, which was fatal. He was being groomed for Santa Anita.
