Photograph caption dated December 13, 1950 reads, "Hawthorne, TV's comic, today came out firmly for the Christmas Crusade to buy suitable gifts for bedridden patients at the San Fernando Veterans Hospital. Said Hawthorne: 'I am sure everyone in the San Fernando Valley wishes to aid this worthy cause. As honorary mayor of Studio City I am glad to give it my support."
