California National Guardsman Robert L. McLaughlin, wife Frances and son Robert Jr., read for active duty. In 1959 McLaughlin was named Air National Guard's outstanding airman. The California National Guard's 146th Air Transport Wing ordered to activation on October 1, 1961
Photograph caption dated August 26, 1961 reads, "M'Laughlins Learn the News. Family expected unit activation."
