Description
Thought for the day by Charles Handy on the drawbacks of assuming other people's responsibilities when they are fully capable of doing fine on their own. Handy begins the thought discussing Ronald Reagan and how he may be taking on more problems than he needs to before observing that most people probably have more problems than they should. He proceeds to note that, in taking on more problems than they should, people deny the opportunity to others to make their own mistakes and take responsibility for their actions, which the Catholic Church calls subsidiarity. Handy concludes that it is only by people managing their own problems that they learn to grow and be free.
