Description
This circa-1900 photograph shows Folsom State Prison’s original Officers and Guards Building. Tucked into the southeast corner of Folsom, the structure was built in 1895, as indicated by the date stone, which reads “MDCCCXCV.” Two guards stand in front of the elevated entryway, while, in the foreground, inmates till a vegetable garden. After 1914, the quarters for prison guards and officers moved to what had been Folsom’s original administrative building.
