Description
The largest stūpa and brick structure of the ancient world. It was also the third highest edifice of the ancient world. Original height: 400 feet (120 meters); diameter: 370 feet (112 meters). Today: height: circa 232 feet (70 meters); diameter: 367 feet (112 meters). Note that the large cavity at the base of the dome would have been the location of a vāhalkada (frontispiece), normally situated at the four cardinal points, but missing on this side.
