Photograph caption dated December 28, 1956 reads "The San Fernando Valley Optometric Society presented an Industrial Division award in the annual society-sponsored Safer Vision Contest to J. D. Buchanan, president of Hydraulic Research Manufacturing Corporation, 2835 North Naomi, Burbank. At the presentation were, left to right, Buchanan, Sam Garcia, assistant to the general manager at Hydraulic Manufacturing Co.; Dr. Dee Deardorff of Glendale, outgoing president of the Optometric Society, and Dr. S. S. Miller of San Fernando, industrial division safer vision contest chairman for the group. The award was given for an outstanding in-plant program on safe vision."
