Description
View of Portsmouth Homes Housing Project, returning veterans' housing located at Gaffey and 17th Streets, San Pedro. It was originally built as temporary war housing. It consisted of 22 buildings with 128 units built on 21 acres and housed an estimated population of 600. It was built at a cost of $508,781. Architects were Kenneth Wing, Ralph Flewelling, and R. Benedict Brout. Landscape architect was Fred Barlow, Jr. The management office was located at 2323 Portsmouth Road, San Pedro. The development was initially occupied May 1, 1945.
