PHOTO: TUNNELS (SAN BERNARDINO MOUNTAINS)
Shows timber-framed tunnel opening with man standing just inside. "1850 feet long, 260 feet under ground, 4882 feet above tide water, through a spur of the San Bernardino mountains in the Sierra Madre Range" -- handwritten on verso.
Beginning in 1891, the Arrowhead Reservoir Company began construction of irrigation project for city of San Bernardino. Consisted of series of roads, tunnels and dams.
