Image package: Plate, mat, cover glass, preserver. Mat: round corners, decorative brass. Preserver: decorative.
Case: leather; 4 3/4 x 3 3/4 in. Motif: geometric. Pad: dark green velvet with embossed motif.
Waist-length portrait of James Allen (mayor of Marysville) in coat, vest, shirt, and bow-tie.
Handwritten note with the case stating that the daguerreotype was a gift to Mrs. George M. Belden of Canton, Ohio on the occasion of Allen's notification of his election as State Printer of California.
Restricted original. Use viewing prints only, shelved in the Portrait File.
Copy prints available for viewing filed in the Portrait File under "Allen, James"; accession numbers 1990-1856; 1994-0059 through 1994-0064.
