Description
Photograph of monument in Truckee dedicated to the Donner Party, depicting a pioneer family, 1830-1860 (ca.1980?). Three figures depicting a pioneer family adorn the top of a large pedestal that appears to be granite. The pedestal is shadowed by spruce trees on either side while boulders are evenly spaced in a line in front of the monument. The male figure of the monument looks away from mountains, which are in the background distance. The monument, dedicated to the family who perished here, was completed in June of 1918. A placard on the pedestal reads: "Virile to risk and find kindly withal and a ready help. Facing the brunt of fate indomitable, - unafraid".
