Description
Dr. John Cushing's Blithedale resort in Blithedale Canyon, circa 1878. This is the earliest photo of the property I know of. The two white buildings at left are the stable and main inn. The Cushing home is at center partially obscured by a foreground tree. Guest cottages can be seen on the hillside at right. The road leading into the resort, a forerunner of today's West Blithedale Ave., enters the photo at lower left. This print is a copy made from a scan of the original photo.
