Title supplied by cataloger.; Photograph was edited for publication purposes. Photograph caption dated July 26, 1933 reads, "The 'candid camera' gives closeup studies of the Mary Miles Minter of today after she emerged from seclusion to defend her mother, Mrs. Charlotte Shelby, against whom she once was ready to wage a legal battle over $1,000,000. Miss Minter, who was famed as 'The American Girl' of the screen a few years ago, left the films when she was at height of fame and fortune, and after the murder of her friend, William Desmond Taylor, she vanished into a lie of seclusion. Now she is known as Juliet Shelby, business woman and vice president of a firm that specializes in landscape gardening. Miss Minter came to the district attorney's office yesterday and emphatically put her foot down on a proposed investigation of Mrs. Shelby's dealings with Miss Minter. There will be no such inquiry."
