Photograph was edited for publication purposes The Mission Stables were built in 1936 by actor Francis Lederer as part of his estate located at 23030 Sherman Way. Influenced by the architectural styles of the San Luis Rey and Santa Inez Missions, Lederer built the stables in the Mission Revival Style. In 1963, the stables were renovated to house the Canoga Mission Community Art Center, later known as the Canoga Mission Gallery. The structure was designated Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument No. 135 in 1974. The former stables are now used as a special events venue and is known as the Hidden Chateau and Gardens, 23130 Sherman Way, West Hills (formerly part of Canoga Park). Photograph caption dated July 25, 1958 reads, "Alice Jackson, 10, left, and Michael Fuson, 14, both of Canoga Park, curry horses as part of training for Canoga Cavaliers, riding group for preteens and teenagers. Youngsters learn cavalry techniques of horsemanship and care of animals. Troops train at Mission Stables in Canoga Park."; See images #00120383 through #00120384 for all photos in this series.
