Image contains four illustrations. The upper left illustration depicts two miners in a store. The upper right illustration depicts two miners trudging through heavy snow toward a cabin. The lower left illustration depicts a town scene with horses and wagons mired , and pedestrians with umbrellas. The lower right illustration depicts a country scene with a mule-train knee-deep in mud and slush with a miner lashing them with a whip. "Lith. & Publd. by Britton & Rey, corner Montgomy. & Califa. Sts. S. Francisco."--text, below image. Baird notes that this is probably the earlier issue of "The Winter in California." Paper color: gray.
