Description
A dark-haired woman and small child are dressed in Parisian fashions from Madame Minette. The woman wears an ankle-length pink redingotte dress of mousseline with zigzag embroidered trimming forming an x from the dropped shoulders and opening down the center front of the skirt. The zigzags have rosettes in each v on the skirt, on the bodice, and on the lower sections at the shoulders. The sleeves are full puffed sleeves, banded twice, just above the elbow and just below. Fitted cuffs have zigzags on the turn backs. Her jewel neckline has two white tightly pleated ruffles. The neck ruffles, the sleeves, and the zigzags reminiscent of point lace indicates a historical 17th century influence on this style. The dress is belted at the waist with a darker pink belt with a gold rectangular buckle. Her white, wide-brimmed hat, known as a capote, is edged with three rows of pleated ruffles and topped with pink and white ribbon bows on the crown. The ties are of wide pink ribbon with black spots along the edges. She wears tan, strapped shoes, white gloves, and carries a white lace handkerchief. The woman is looking downward toward a dark-haired little girl who wears a white dress with a light blue sash. She wears white trousers and a white top with short puffed sleeves. An edging of tight pleats trims the off-the-shoulder neckline. The shoulders are accented with blue ribbon bows. The child wears blue shoes and a wide-brimmed straw hat with a matching blue bow tied at the side of her neck. Triple strands of red beads complete her outfit and allude to the tricolor of the (then) new French flag.
