She was president of the Los Angeles Civil Service Commission from 1953-1960, and the first female postmaster in Van Nuys, serving from 1960-1972. She died in 1991. Photograph caption dated February 2, 1960 reads "Mrs. Kay Bogendorfer being sworn in as new Van Nuys postmistress, succeeding Gibson as postmaster." Bogendorfer is being sworn in by postal inspector S. H. Jensen, left, as Ernest D. Gibson, right looks on. The swearing in took place at the Van Nuys Post Office at 14530 Sylvan Street.
