Description
The Miss California Bathing Beauty Contest was held as part of the Venice Mardi Gras. View 2 shows a young woman wearing a bathing suit and playing the accordion; a stuffed seagull with extended wings sits atop the instrument. Dozens of other live gulls can be seen behind her, in full flight as well as next to the water's edge. This may have been part of the talent portion of the contest. Photo dated: 1936.
