Description
Czech women wearing traditional clothing gather to celebrate the arrival of Czech athletes during a welcoming party at the Santa Fe La Grande Station. The athletes have arrived for the Xth Olympiad to be held in Los Angeles. In the foreground is a table on which a large loaf of bread, salt and flowers have been placed. In Czech culture, when important, respected or admired guests arrive, a loaf of bread with a salt holder is placed on a rushnik (or embroidered towel); this tradition is called Chle´b a su°l (bread and salt). In the background a neighboring business, R.L. Craig Grocers, is partially visible. Photo dated: July 21, 1932.
