Description
Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1889-1989.
Jack LaLanne celebrates his 70th birthday by towing 70 boats full of people for one mile in Long Beach. One of the most charismatic--and pragmatic--of the modern-day fitness gurus, LaLanne was part of the original Musicl Beach crew. In the 1950s, from KTTV studios in Hollywood, LaLanne used the new medium of television to exhort housewives to get up, exercise, and feel good! The show ran for some 30 years as LaLanne, in his taut jumpsuit, preached the gospel of a healthy diet combined with cardiovascular and strength exercise. Photo dated: November 21, 1984.
