Sculptured by Herman T. Beck, the L.A. Museum animal sculptor, this composition shows two extinct lion-like cats. Male cats of this group were nearly one fourth larger than any of the largest living cats - lions or tigers - of Eurasia. Their bones (used for models) were taken from the Pleistocene era in the Ranch La Brea tar pits.
