View of St. John's Lutheran Preschool, located at the back portion of St. John's Lutheran Church, at 425 N. 18th Street. The preschool looks much like the church: a tan structure with a brown roof, several windows along the front and sides, and a small cross over the main entrance. The fence surrounding this preschool is colorfully painted and several recreational items for children to play on are located on the front lawn. St. John's Lutheran Church was established in 1906; the first church was built at a cost of $500 and dedicated on Feb. 18, 1912, although it is unclear if it was built at its present location. The religion of Lutheranism is a major branch of Protestant Christianity that identifies with the teachings of Martin Luther, a German monk and theologian who sought to reform the practices of the Roman Catholic Church in the 16th century. Today, nearly 70 million Christians belong to Lutheran churches worldwide. Photo dated: November 2006.
