Description
Colonel Jaime Flores Grijalva (seated, second left), commander of the 3rd Brigade in San Miguel, interacts with other soldiers in San Agustín, El Salvador, after a five-day guerrilla occupation of the town. A child leans against a wall and one soldier is touching his rifle. The Colonel, now deceased, is among 32 Salvadoran military officers accused of directing, ordering, or participating in the operation that killed almost 1,000 people (half of them children and adolescents) in December 1981 in El Mozote and its surroundings. In January 2018 a Salvadoran court recognized the events as War crimes and crimes against humanity.
