Photograph article dated July 26, 1954 partially reads, "Doctors today hoped to save the sight of a Van Nuys school girl's right eye, struck by a ricocheting bullet as she watched two groups of youths struggle over a rifle. The rifle discharged during the fight and a fragment of the bullet hit Helen G. Cabrera, 13, a Van Nuys Junior High school girl, in the eye. She was taken to Valley Hospital, Van Nuys, where a doctor removed a fragment of lead from her eye. She is under the treatment of a private physician today at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Angel Cabrera, 14769 1/2 Delano St., Van Nuys." Photograph caption reads, "Injured girl - Helen Cabrera, 13, wears bandage over eye injured when youths fighting across the street from her Van Nuys home discharged .22 rifle. Part of bullet richocheted [sic] into her eye."
