Description
Photograph of colored painting of sailing ship on sea, showing several ships in background, ca.1700. At center, a large ship with open sails is seen moving across the choppy water. The sides of the ship are a darkly-colored blue, and a bit of red lines the bottom of the hull. A white strip runs along the side of the boat and highlights the many cannon hatches present. Two erect wooden masts supporting seven open sails are visible near the center of the ship. A small angled mast near the bow supports a small triangular sail. All the sails are colored beige and shaded. American flags are visible at the tops of both mast posts of the ship. In the background, two ships can be seen to the left of the boat, and an additional three are seen to the right. In the extreme background to the right, a green-topped mountain stands near the dark blue water. White, blue, and purple combine to color the many clouds in the sky.
