Wuss, December 8, 1953. 3) Sheets A and B, pencil on tissue, of proposed alterations in existing theatre, Charles Ford Company, Inc., Main & Wall Streets, Job 6605 by Peter Wuss, A.I.A. (Woodland Avenue, San Jose), November 9, 1966. Note: Wall Street appears to be renamed Beach Street as of catalog date. According to a Watsonville Register-Pajaronian article dated January 7, 1964, Wuss prepared sketches as part of an effort to overhaul some of Watsonville's older downtown buildings, including the Stoesser properties on Main Street's 300 block, and buildings on Wall Street from Ford Alley to Van Ness Avenue including the State Theater and the Appleton Hotel. George Menasco of Charles Ford Co., which purchased the Wall Street structures is quoted as saying the face-lifts would definitely take place within two years. Menesco said the store was considering turning the State Theater building into a warehouse and repair shops, tearing down the buildings behind Ford's and expanding the parking area. The Stoesser block and annex (331-341 Main Street) were later added to the National Register of Historic Places, but were heavily damaged and lost in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.
