A member of the Mazatlan float dressed in a chicken costume hugs a child during the parade in East Los Angeles. The parade, beginning at 1st and Lorena streets and ending at Mednik Avenue, celebrates the 1810 war for Mexico's independence. An estimated 15,000 spectators lined the 1-1/2 mile route and viewed 37 floats, numerous horseback riders, several bands, Assemblyman Art Torres, Mayor Tom Bradley, and comedian Mario Moreno Cantinflas.
