Description
This two room school house was originally a one room primary classroom on the location of The Salem Street School grounds on Sixth Street between Salem and Normal Street. Miss Alice Crum was the teacher when my twin brother Will B. McClard and I (Nellie McClard) was in the 5th grade. In 1889 Annie Rinehard was our teacher. When the half block facing Oleander between 3rd and 4th Avenue was purchased for Chico Veino School building- this pictured bulding was moved to Third Avenue side of Chico Vecino lot. Linnie Richardson Thomasson teacher at Bidwell School moved in and taught in these two rooms for several years until January 1920. Class portrait at The Chico Veino School - ca 1898. Posed in the center of group is Louise Perry (teacher at school from 1898-1902). She graduated from Chico Normal School in 1896. She was born in Cherokee, Claif. Butte County. Identified child last in bottom row is Annie Riedel.
