Description
Photograph article dated October 18, 1960 partially reads, "Sidewalk superintending may not be very profitable, but it's one of the most common occupations in North Hollywood today. The big attraction? Skycrapers [sic]... North Hollywood is in the Eastern San Fernando Valley and its postal boundaries include the communities of Studio City and Toluca Lake. Population estimates range from 101,600 (from the city) to 170,000 (from the Chamber of Commerce which recognizes postal boundaries). The Valley's two other large cities, Burbank and Van Nuys are to the east and west of the community. The new skyscrapers which will be occupied sometime next year, are tall reminders that North Hollywood has 'spread out' just about as far as it can: new populations and new businesses must go up. In some sections, older homes are being torn down to make room for multi-unit dwellings, room for more people." Photograph caption reads, "Restful place - Al Berru, 2231 Thelma St., Los Angeles, an employe [sic] of the Department of Water and Power, finds North Hollywood Park a restful place to relax during his lunch period. Sundays find many picnickers using the park as a relaxation stop."; See images #00143815 through #00143820 for all photos in this series.
