Description
View of the statue of President William McKinley in St. James Park. The view is from North First Street looking west toward the interior of the park. The bronze statue sits on a granite base. On the right three women sit on a bench. On May 13, 1901, President McKinley spoke to a large and enthusiastic crowd in St. James Park. After his assassination six months later, grieving citizens raised $14,000 to erect a statue in his honor. The statue was placed in St. James Park on the spot where he had given his speech.
