Description
View of Del Monte Plant #3 at 801 Auzerais Avenue, San Jose, from the West San Carlos Street railroad overpass. Del Monte Plant #3 was the largest Del Monte operation in the Santa Clara Valley. The location was used continuously for fruit and vegetable canning from 1893, when the San Jose Fruit Packing Company constructed a plant here, until 1999. At center is the water tower, built in 1956. In the right foreground is Warehouse #2, built in 1932, which housed the can labeling machines. The building's distinctive diamond pattern is a Streamline Modern design feature.
