Mary Ellen Hammond was born in Jefferson County, Tennessee in 1843 to Robert Gilbert Hammond and Mary Ann Manly. Came to California across the plans in 1853. Lived in Tuolumne County, San Francisco and Sonoma County. Married Robert Howe in 1859. Died in 1897.
