Photograph article dated November 5, 1953 partially reads, "The Burbank City Council, at its regular meeting, is expected to approve the latest proposed routing of the Golden State Freeway and so notify the State Highway Commission engineers. This step was indicated by Burbank Mayor Carl M. King today after a public hearing last night at Burbank High School. The latest routing of the freeway, it was pointed out at the meeting, attended by approximately 300 citizens, has been designed to avoid the George Washington School, at Winona avenue and Lincoln street." Photograph caption reads, "Aerial map shows freeway plan - Burbank City Engineer Clayton W. Paige uses huge aerial photo to point out proposed routings of Golden State Freeway inside Burbank city limits. New plan would by-pass school and church which formerly were threatened.
