Description
Photograph of a view of a road in Taos Hill, New Mexico, June 17, 1928. A dirt road is visible in the center foreground zigzagging towards the background, while what appears to be a horse carriage is visible on the road. A rocky mountainside runs along the road to the left, and a pile of rocks delineate the road to the right.
This photograph of Taos Hill was taken on June 17, 1928. A note on the right edge of the photograph reads: "11-6 RWB 6-17-28 U.S. 485 Taos Co. Taos Hill where shovel began work. Rock wall built by convicts 1926-27". A stamp on the back of the image reads "New Mexico Highway Journal Santa Fe, N.M." Photoprint reads: "The famous Taos Hill, long a barrier to development of the North Country. The town of Taos, home of Kit Carson, the Taos Pueblo, internationally famous artist colony, has increased in growth and tourist travel miraculously since completion of road".
