Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated March 8, 1965 partially reads, "An abandoned red pickup truck found in the the [sic] desolate Sierra Vizcaino Desert near here was definitely identified today as the one in which two youths departed from the Valley last July and then disappeared. However, no trace was found of Harold Dean Slaght, 19, of Santa Susana, or Steven Bunch, 18, of Canoga Park. The two youths left last June 21 for a three-week cactus hunting expedition on the Mexican peninsula. Their parents have not heard from them since. Steven's father, Robert Bunch, 20952 Blythe Ave., made a positive identification of the truck here. The vehicle was discovered last Tuesday by two Mexican cowboys who reported it to authorities." Photograph caption reads, "Checking map - Members of Valley Times search party check map and equipment prior to taking off for Baja California yesterday from Van Nuys Airport. From left are Dick Houdek, staff writer; Robert Bunch, father of one of the missing boys; Ed Connelly, manager of flight operations at Van Nuys Skyways; Dennis Owens, student pilot at Van Nuys Skyways, and Gordon Dean, chief photographer of the Valley Times."
