Photograph caption dated May 16, 1956 reads "This group of Northridge residents petitions officials for half million-dollar bond issue to permit acquisition and improvement of 20 acres to use for recreation center. More than 1,700 signatures were turned over to Los Angeles city clerk. Shown above are, left to right, George Hjelte of the Parks Department, Councilman Robert M. Wilkinson, City Clerk Walter C. Peterson, Dr. Delmar Oviatt, Paul McCann, John Glenn and Leroy Black."
