Aimee Semple McPherson (1890-1944), Canadian-born evangelist in the 1920s and 1930s, founded of the Pentecostal Foursquare Church in 1927. Angelus Temple, which was dedicated on January 1, 1923, served as McPherson's religious base until her accidental death in 1944. The temple, still the headquarters of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, was later added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992, Building No. 92001875.
