Description
Note: Als Nr. 23 publiziert im Album 'Achtzig Ansichten von der Goldküste (Westafrika) nach Originalaufnahmen des Missionars Fritz Ramseyer', Neuenburg 1895.
Note translation: Published as no 23 in the album 'Achtzig Ansichten von der Goldküste (Westafrika) nach Originalaufnahmen des Missionars Fritz Ramseyer', (= 'Eighty pictures of the Gold Coast (West Africa) photographed by the missionary Fritz Ramseyer'), Neuenburg 1895. - The caption there reads: "Girls doing their hair. Our christian girls hold fast to their traditional hair styles. Saturday afternoon is their free time and is usually taken up by producing these works of art. On the other days of the week they cover their hair with a colourful scarf." - The phrasing of this caption in the French version of the album ('Quatre-vingts vues...') implies that the author thinks they should obviously do their hair every day, but since there is no time for this on other days their hair is covered by a scarf.
