Description
This film is significant not only to Madera County's history, but to the history of California as well. It begins with the filming of an early 1930's Madera County Old Timers Day Parade, an event that has been held annually since May of 1925. After the parade, the film then shows a plane landing and then the filming continues in the plane, showing aerial views of Madera homes, downtown, and the Sugar Pine Lumber Company's drying yards which were located on the east end of the City of Madera. During the early 1900's, Madera County was the 6th largest producer of lumber in the State of California with the Sugar Pine Lumber Company being the largest lumber company in Madera County. The Sugar Pine Lumber Company also owned the 2nd largest flume in the world, 65 miles long and its drying yards covered 160 acres. The film continues with scenes of motorcycle races and ends with boating at Yosemite Lake.
