Photograph was edited for publication purposes. The Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, located at 3939 S. Figueroa Street, was officially opened on July 4, 1959 by then Vice President Richard M. Nixon and was designed by Welton Becket; general contractor was L.E. Dixon Company. The last event at the arena was a Bruce Springsteen concert. The arena was closed on March 19, 2016 and demolished to make room for a new soccer stadium. Photograph caption date stamped July 7, 1964 reads "Boxing Promoter George Parnassus of the Olympic Boxing Club, left, and world bantamweight champion Eder Jofre of Brazil sat together at ringside last night at the Mashiko Harada-Rey Asis 10-rounder at the Sports Arena. The two continued negotiations for a title bout between Jofre and Mexico's Jesus Pimentel in Los Angeles in August. Pimentel was originally scheduled to fight Harada, but withdrew from the fight because of stomach trouble."
