Description
Sub-titled “A Home Paper for Home People,” The Sacramento Bank Depositor was the house organ of the Sacramento Bank and featured fiction, poetry, platitudes and homilies as well as bank news and facts from across the country. Issues featured original cover and interior decorations as well as photographs of prominent bankers. Articles included “Thrift or Luck: Two Paths for Young Men – Where they Lead”, “Wisdom of Savings Accounts” and “The Census.” Established in 1867, by 1918 the Sacramento Bank at 431 J Street advertised itself as the “Oldest, Largest and Strongest Savings Bank in Northern California” and boasted deposits of over $13,000,000. James M. Henderson, Jr., who served as Cashier and Manager of the Sacramento Bank during the years the “Sacramento Bank Depositor” was published and had earned a position as Bank Director by 1918 was the subject of a full-page profile in 1912. Philip Scheld is noted as President in issues of Sacramento Bank Depositor but by June of 1918 Henderson was serving as President as well as Director while A. P. Scheld was listed as one of the Directors of the bank. The Special Collections holdings of Sacramento Bank Depositor include seven issues from October 1911 through June 1913.
