Description
This is a photograph of the first train in Porterville, CA, in Tulare County in the Central San Joaquin Valley. This photo shows the train paused over what looks like newly finished track which runs right beside an orchard, showing the viewer that Tulare County had already started to become very agricultural. This train was probably brought to Porterville to bring more workers into the farms, and to help ship produce out.
The photograph shows how the railroad changed the landscape of rural places such as the Central Valley by bringing people to those places.
